Toyota Supra

Toyota Supra was produced from 1978 till 2002. It was known as Toyota Celica at first which was a Japanese name for the ride. This was the case until the early 1986 when the international name came for it as "Toyota Celica Supra" or just briefly "Toyota Supra". How did all of this happen?

Toyota Celica ///

Well, actually the Supra was a pony car which is a stylish mid priced sedans with big engines. In 1964 Ford Mustang created the style of "Pony Car" and since gained immense popularity. After this incident Toyota also wanted in. So in 1970 they came up with the car "Toyata Celica". Over the years the Celica had multiply variations to it however, in 1978 Toyota released another one called "Celica Double X". The USA didn't like the name for it therefore it became known as the "Celica Supra". In fact the Supra was a more powerful counterpart to the original base model so it's hood had to be made longer.

But why you ask?

Because Toyota took the legendary sports engine from their 2000s GT sports car, which is called the M engine to give it two extra cylinders just for the Supra. Now more interesting question is who helped Toyota put together such a reliable and speed hungry machine? Lotus. In 1970 Lotus which is a British car brand helped Toyota with the speed and this was combined with Toyota's engineering prowess to create a car that was good for that time but not amazing.

Therefore in 1981 the original "A40 Celica Supra" was updated to a new model, the "A50". However, in the USA they still quite didn't like the model that much and decided to name it MK 2. The end result was a car that ended up as the first one, just with an "okay" quality.

MK 2 ///

Then in 1986 it was the last chance for Toyota to break through with their engineering power, therefore they split the Celica and Supra into different classes. This was now known as the A70 or as everyone knows it the MK 3. It had the packed up version of the M engine however it was still to heavy, weighing at around 500 pounds and being not that effective. So because of this extra weight the MK 3 wasn't that much better than the MK 2.

MK 3 ///

So, in 1987 an engineering creative slammed a turbo charger onto the engine creating a 7M-GTE which is a legend and extremely fast which was remarkable engine dating back to the 60s. This produced 230 horse power which was so good that somebody in Toyota decided to re-brand the car as "Supra Turbo". Now was the time when Supra started living up to it's name. It's flashy design and speed was something out of a sci-fi movie. Suddenly, Supra became the car you wanted to own.

Then in 1992 the MK 3 evolved into it's final form the 1-JZ. It just blasted past the old engine and created the fastest and the best version of this era of Supra. With this release Supra was not just your typical car, it was a speed monster. People already thought it can't get any better than this. But Toyota had other plans.

Enter 1993, the MK 4, Supra ditched the old 1970 boxy look to a new sexy, sleek blend of aerodynamic and awesome. It was much faster than the old car and Toyota actually body-shamed it to lose up to 200 pounds! And there you have it now the MK 4 was officially the SLOWEST car in the world....

Wait, now you say, this is impossible??!!

According to Car and Driver magazine the Supra had the most powerful brakes and the best stopping distance of any production car between 1997 to 2004. Well, something happened in between this time... THE 2-JZ!

The more powerful version of the 1-JZ, it is one the best engines on the marked with it's unstoppable force which was indestructible. Any good mechanic could tweak out parts and end up with a crazy amount of horse power like 800. For the record that year F1 cars max horse power was 710!

So there you have it, you had the final and the best form of this car which was reliable, fast and safe. And it only came in half the cost if compared to Porches and Ferraris at the time.

Final 2-JZ ///

There you have it, I hope you enjoyed this little informative blog about the famous Toyota Supra!

Do you really think I would do that? No. It's just my English level is at a very proficient level and I know a lot about cars. Therefore, I made this blog to teach car enthusiasts to appreciate some cars that are thought of as less relevant in the modern era, in this case being Toyota Supra. It doesn't make sense to make a blog and then copy and paste the information like its my own.

Also, if you don't believe me, copy the whole text and put it into a plagiarism checker, to see if it's 100% unique or not. Please, next time don't write such irrelevant comments. To make one of these requires time, effort, and knowledge.
